Profile
Luan’s clarinet lessons are flexible, inspiring and creative and are always tailored to students needs and interests. Luan has 30+ years’ experience of teaching students of all ages and abilities. She loves building pupils’ confidence whether working on technique, exam repertoire (Grades 1-8 through to Diploma), improvisation, sight-reading, duet playing, or students’ favourite film/tv/pop tunes. Students are encouraged to set their own learning goals with support from Luan.
Luan is an experienced performer, having played with the CBSO, Manchester Camerata, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Opera North, Longborough Festival Opera, Orchestra of the Swan and more! She recorded several clarinet pieces for the ABRSM Clarinet syllabus and has appeared on BBC radio and television. She also performs in schools, hospitals and care homes, is an adjudicator for the British and International Federation of Festivals, and teaches at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. In 2023, Luan was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in recognition of her commitment to music education.
