Kevin Scanlon
Profile
I am a lifelong musician with decades of experience as both a performer and teacher, specializing in traditional acoustic music. My background includes guitar, clawhammer banjo, and harmonica, with a deep respect for the heritage, history, and storytelling that live within these instruments.
Teaching has always been a natural extension of my musical life. I enjoy helping students not only learn songs and techniques, but also develop a strong sense of rhythm, tone, and how to truly feel the music. Whether you are picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to deepen your connection to traditional styles, I meet students where they are and help them move forward with confidence.
I work with beginners through intermediate students of all ages, including adults who are starting later in life. Lessons are relaxed, supportive, and tailored to each student’s goals. We focus on learning by ear, supported by simple tabs and clear explanations. When helpful, I provide short video recordings of lesson segments so students can review techniques and material between lessons.
In your first lesson, you can expect to start playing real music right away while building a solid foundation you can grow from.
If you’re interested in traditional acoustic music and want a patient, encouraging teacher, I’d be happy to work with you.
